“Good Earth Family”
My father never objected for any new venture. On the contrary, he encouraged me to undertake several projects with a very positive attitude. Many parents opine that their children should not avail of loan. However I feel that loan facilities are inevitable if one needs to do something novel & path breaking.
I have completed post graduation in agriculture. My father having inadequate & nonfertile land of approximately only one acre at hand and that is all he had ! However dedicated to undertake herculian efforts with correct foresight & energy to take up new ventures, we developed amazing agricultural projects at Talsande. (Taluka - Hatkanangle, Dist. Kolhapur, State Maharashtra). Initially we started with Jawar & Udid (pulse products) which required moderate water supply, there after we started to produce vegetable, followed by Sugarcane & now tissue culture bananas ! Now we can provide work for nearly 100 needy persons. My father had to search for work by himself, now provides different opportunities of work to young generation !
My father Balu Nana Chavan travel especially to observe new experiments in Agriculture, therefore he encourages us to move forward. He felt that his son should not be "a five to five office gone. Therefore I completed my graduation in the year 2000 & proceeded for Masters Course in Shivaji University, Kolhapur with Agrochemical & pest management.
The breakthrough started in the year 1978 when my father decided to undertake grape production. Grapes being a cash crop, he secured loan from Bank of India of about 30 thousand rupees. People like Vasantrao Mali (who is known as the Guru of grape production), P. J. Jadhav, S. A. Dabholker always encourages his efforts. The natural calvities like no rain or heavy rain continued for nearly 11 years; & the loan amount increased up to one & half lakh rupees. Honesty should be the basic ingredient of human behavior, hence he repaid all the loan as early as possible.
Meanwhile, an infertile land of seven acres won to be disposed off by local farmer. My father purchased it & started producing fruits & vegetables. The process won not very easy as he has to sell two acres of land to acquire fertile land of only two acres with this step, the production of vegetables & fruits increased to a considerable amount. He also ventured to have a separate water well in our land. Fortunately lot of water won available & he had a satisfaction that he was proceeding in a correct direction.
Experiments such as sugarcane agriculture, popaya fruits sometimes had a great setback for him. In the year 2001, he undertake to banana tissue culture project with a deep gratitude towards Krishibhushan Mahadevrao Chougale.
Meanwhile I studied all the peculiarities of banana tissue culture & decided to work scientifically at every step. Bank of India sanction loan of 17 lakh rupees to start tissueculture laboratory. Initially faced by several difficulties & economic setbacks, now I successfully running the laboratory. It is an exemplary example of ‘new generation agriculture !
Now the production of tissueculture banana has reached upto 40 lack per anum. This laboratory is the one & only laboratory of such kind ! Our Chavan family without a remarkable background of such ambitious projects, has achieved remarkable heights in agricultural development. Now 100 workers are employed and farmers from all over India visit the laboratory. Consultation is also provide to undertake such projects. I am supported by my family members who is successfully moving forward with the help of father Balu, mother Shantabai & my wife Latika !
What we do?
